Hi you guys,

Is the New 0.7 pfs ready for use...? (Because the old pfs should not be used any more)

The reason I ask, is because I am busy building a new pfs based on ajax, json and off course with TPL
I need this (yesterday :D ) for a project off mine... they don't like the pfs (i cannot blame them)
So I am building a new one :) (based on the old lady, but now on a good way).
(I have rebuild the upload files completely now)

But before I go further I would like to know some info about te current status off the new pfs..

By the way (if interested, i could share my stuff)

The new PFS is usable unless you use folder storage mode, which mostly means the old PFS (with TPLs and resources). The physical folders storage mode seems to be implemented as a backend too, but front end doesn't work (needs debugging). I believe, the new thumbnail generator works too.

For more details on the new PFS, check the topic.

There is a big problem about it, though. As you know, Koradhil has left Cotonti and discontinued work on the PFS 2.0. Currently there are 2 possibilities:
  1. To roll PFS back to "the old lady" and apply TPL & RC support (we have such a version of it already)
  2. To find somebody who will continue Koradhil's work
The first way is very easy. But it means just dropping all the Korad's work, whereas some of it is really good (e.g., I like PFS functions).

What are you going to implement in your PFS version?
May the Source be with you!

Shit :) : I use folder storage mode...

I know that gert has left cotonti, i 'spoke' to him december... it is really to bad :(

What do you mean by "(we have such a version of it already)" ????
If so i am interested...

I only want a better RIA, web20 solution for uploading files and a better selection when using in pages.
BUT I have some nice techniques lying around now... and I could build the whole pfs again...
(based on the old lady.... but only now in RIA and not all in 1 php file and hardcoded html)

BUT I do not want to differ from Cotonti to much.....
So that's why I want to know the status off pfs. ( Is there a time estimation ???)

Kilandor is working on pfs now is he ????

I mean right before Koradhil committed his new PFS, we made the old PFS use templates. So we can roll back to old version + templates.

Currently PFS has no maintainer. If there is nobody to continue PFS 2.0 until, say, 10th of March, we will just roll back to the old version + templates + resources.
May the Source be with you!

Why Koradhil left Cotonti? :O :/ :(

Ez, are you implementing a flash multi-upload system?

So, also Koradhil simple gallery (based on his new PFS) is a dead project now?

I'm very sad... a good PFS system and a simple Gallery (with category structure) system based on Cotonti PFS were the first goals in my wish list... :(

Hi donP,
No I will not be using flash.. (actually i do not like flash app's)
But I will make it nice and good to use. based on good techniques (jquery ajax, json, tpl).

I hope someone can finish koradhils work...

I know the feeling.
That's why I use the gallery Tensh converted to Cotonti.
Also a nice one.
... can we help you ...

I also use usergallery I personally converted from Sedition, but it has got some bugs in comments and ratings, and needs a core hack to pfs.inc.php... :(

But, your techniques are for multi-uploads? I think it's a must-have feature...

About Koradhils work, personally I think the actual folder system (one folder per user) is quite enough (a subfolder system would be a traffic jam in Server structure with many users using pfs, I think)...
I think your project would be a great goal for the next release (not Siena but 0.6.7 one ;) )

donP, it's the same gallery I converted, try it. Comments and ratings work there :)

I might help you with PFS project if you like, Ez. I have some nice ideas.
Also, I might further improve the gallery I converted and adjust it to a new PFS. For example, there's one nice working free CGI script that allows uploading of big files despite php restrictions... dunno if it will be helpful, though.

Native CGI scripts are not portable. In addition, some modern webservers do not support CGI anymore (e.g. nginx).

Great.. Just send me the ideas.. any good stuff is appreciated.
Maybe we can combine forces to make a better pfs :)

1) Yes it's multiupload
2) i think also that a single folder is good enough.. But i think that Koradhils work is for folders in folders ?????

GREAT!!! ;)

Yes, Koradhils work was based on folders in folders mode.
So, I actually use folder mode, in other words: datas/users/user_id/files.ext (one folder per user).
Koradhils mode was: datas/users/user_id/subfolder1/files.ext, datas/users/user_id/subfolder1/subsubfolder/files.ext... then FISICAL folders... :/
I think if my website has 1000 users and each has at least 20 subfolders under his PFS folder, the datas/users/ folder on the Server would be a real jam, with many problems...

I think the old lady (but folder mode, not old userid mode) it's good enough.
The only features we need are multi upload, better TPL, better interface when pasting a file in markitUp editor (with the ability to insert also alt and title attributes for images and href description for other files...
Also, I would have the ability to view and use files that are uploaded like plublic by any user, so, if you upload a file in your file space and you set it as public I also can link to that file from my "file insert" module in markitUp...

Later I was thinking.... (what do you mean exactly by multiupload....)
On the current cotonti version you can upload multiple files in one go..
SO you can use this already??

I was a bit puzzled by your remark.

Not like that!
With "Multi-upload" I mean selecting more than one file (also 30-40 per time) from an explorer-like window and click one "upload" button to upload them in one turn, viewing a porcess bar while the script uploads selected files to the Server (for that reason I mentioned flash applications, like swfupload).
Actually, with the old lady, if you have to upload a very huge number of files (like the case of a gallery folder) you have to click 8 times the file input form in PFS and select files one by one, and repeat this operation till the end of your hundreds of files :(
Very annoying!

Last but not least, I think it would be a good thing to implement drag&drop feature (with JS/ajax) between PFS window and markitUp...
