What should it have

While you can use PageAvatar and PageMultiAvatar to turn pages into galleries, the request for a user gallery plugin is still quite popular.

I'm currently considering a bridge to 3rd party gallery software as a possible solution. The most popular PHP gallery is this one, but G3 has no ways of integration with 3rd party software apart from REST API, which is more suitable for 3rd party sites than with your own one. So, I'm checking if Coppermine or Piwigo can be integrated with Cotonti.

I wonder how far such an integration should go. To be precise I'd like to ask 2 questions to the community:

  1. Would you like to use a 3rd party gallery script such as G3/Coppermine/Piwigo together with your Cotonti site?
  2. What features do you need from such an integration?

The first obvious feature is that a user should be able to login in both systems with one account.

there was once a plugin for seditio/cotonti that rocked! it was called Usergalley (usergal) and is still live on: http://urbancrusaders.nl

it has in my opinion everything a gallery needs. The only thing missing is a way to direct the userinput to categories.

My personal feature list would be:

admin can set main categories
users can add photo's to a given category or a own folder (which then becomes a sub-folder of the category).
ablility to display most recent and/or best voted and/or random picture on index (a bit like the gal of Kort)

I know usergal is cool but urlkiller doesn't maintain it any further and doesn't allow anybody else to do so.

one thing iam really interested in would be if i make a new gallery that dont uses the pfs system.
would that make it suck?
i was thinking about a standalone system... because of the unsure outcome of the current pfs system...

Added 2 minutes later:

and another q would be if i make it for genoa would anybody convert it to siena (under same licence-type i choose!!!)?

PFS-less system is fine by me.

I'll help with Genoa to Siena conversion if you pick a non-proprietary license or at least release it for free :)

Cool, thanks! Is it ok if I put it on github (keeping your copyrights ofc) so others can submit their patches?
