This one is a really big thing because we need to teach people how to make templates and skins for Cotonti.

Category: Skins
Type(s): Tutorial, HOWTO (a screencast would be great but quite long, LOL)
Language(s): English (others are optional)

Contents:
  1. Where to start (copying good stuff from existing skins)
  2. A brief guide to XTemplate
  3. Making your own header/footer templates
  4. Customizing CSS files
  5. Going deeper: write your own templates for standard modules
  6. Even deeper: customizing plugin templates to match your skin
  7. Deeper than the deep: Admin panel layout made yourself
  8. Skin language files and translations
  9. Adding fancy JavaScript FX to your layouts

Please post below if you want to write the article and what languages you will cover. Suggestions are also possible.

Ok, one thing. I'd be willing to take this one. I have an idea how to do it, and I think I could explain those 9 chapters.

BUT, if someone more experienced (one of the designers, dot, sergeich, stam or anyone else) would like to do this, I'd be happy to leave it to him - he might now some tricks I don't know :)

It's not a problem - once article is written it can be edited/extended by others. So I bind this one to you ;)

I submited the first part. Please check for errors/outdated things, etc.

I have to split it in more pages, because it will be too long for a one page.

This is basically just info from neocrome.net about general things, the first real thing should be done tomorrow.

Added 17 hours 59 minutes later:

Added XTemplate overview.

This was probably the hardest part for me, because I had to find all the info regarding the new XTemplate. So please correct if something is wrong.

I hope to add another doc tomorrow.

Updated!

The {FILE "skins/sed-light/mytext.tpl"} will be described in next tutorial, along with some graphic.

Please, don't hesitate to correct me if something is explained wrong :)

BTW, can you check this out? http://www.cotonti.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=3110&n=last#bottom

Added 4 hours 13 minutes later:

"Skin language files and translations" done.

I caught some cold so it has slowed me down a bit, hopefully I'll do another one by tonight.

Truthfully I didn't expect you're so good at writing tutorials, now that I'm amazed by your great work. Take care!

I'm on vacation from 14.08. 'til 1.9.
When I come back I'll finish the last few parts of this tutorial series.
Enjoy it while I'm gone :)
