Try to change the plugin.

Go to /plugins/news and change the tags in news.php
like:

[BEGIN_SED]

Don't forget to reinstall the plugin. I'm not sure it will work.

This is what I do when I have a plugin for index and I need it for eg header.

As i understand you want to make something like a welcome page.I think you dont need to change the index page.I dont remember where,but i think you can manualy set the default page link

Dear All!!!

For some reasons I must fill index.php with some static intro text, and it's needed that all news can be seen in new page like page.php?id=4 just as it can be seen by default on the index page.

Can you advise something?
