Thank you for your replies. I am aware of Attach2, however, I have not had chance to use it.

What I like about PFS is the Site File Space where all the media content of the site could be administrated from one place. And insertion of content from the SFS to a page is straight-forward enough, so I wouldn't dismiss PFS as being legacy - I think Attach2 and PFS cater for different uses.

I guess my question is more general that I had originally intended: Will PFS be developed further in future releases or is it truly 'legacy' and its use deprecated until competing file management solutions make it obsolete?

My only (current) issues with PFS are:

Thumbnails (see above) [enhancement]

File Size Inconsistencies (see https://github.com/Cotonti/Cotonti/issues/1181) [bug]

Ability to transfer files from individual users' PFS to SFS, et vice versa. [feature]

PFS is more of a legacy stuff now. I've been using Attach2 since around ten projects.

)) I remember I found it long time ago, but that time many people were talking about re-modeling PFS entirely, so I was going to wait, while hacking that slightly for some project...

You better hear from core developpers about plans for new PFS, or (of course) you can always create your own plugin or rewrite a thumb function

Good afternoon,

So as you guys are probably aware I've been doing Genoa -> Siena upgrade these past few weeks (hence all the random posts). One thing I've noticed, however, is the thumbnail generation seems to have been somewhat crippled.

//old:
sed_createthumb(original path, thumbnail path, x dim, y dim, keepratio, filetype, file, filesize, color text, bg color, border, jpeg quality, dim priority)

//new:
cot_imageresize(original path, thumbnail path, x dim, y dim, 'fit', bg color, jpeg quality)

The first problem is that the Siena PFS config file still teases the user with lots of customisation options that the function itself doesn't even use! Even if I could forgive that my real gripe would have to be that my images are being cropped. I'd rather have "transparent letterboxing".

I think the thumbnail settings should be:

Maximum width and maximum height are one setting, one number, eg: 250px. and it is never exceeded!

Aspect ratio = always maintained;

Cropping: never crop.

If both width and height are less than max dim then do nothing to the image.

If Cotonti could allow me to use these settings on thumbnails that would be magic.

Discuss! :)
