Hmm, ok so lets say even the very simple is like russian to me and so I will ask something very stupid.

Do you put the code to make the cookie in a tpl (for example header) or in the php files of the PM's? I never saw any function being called or variables ( $ ) being set in a tpl.

That can be used in your template, then put any html you want inside, and it will only go off when there is new pm's

But again for something such as sounds or alerts you need cookies to preven it from happenign every time.
