Is there a simpler way to put a hit counter on the footer?

It's extremely simple, just put the code in footer.tpl and upload. And whalla - real-time stats (depending on what stats package you're using, Google Analytics is not real time while StatCounter is)

I figured cotonti's inherent stat capabilities had some sort of tag. Could I run a php script for this using one of the tables whit stat data?
