I think that plugin recentitems has no enough functionality
What I think we need to do: 1/ Remove this option.  And reed access options previously. 2/ Separate recent forums and recent pages in different files (different plugin parts) 3/ Add "new on site from last visit"  with ability of adding new parts. yeah that seems great.
I have always felt that the forums / recent pages should be separated. I think it would be nice to be able to set the recent items for certain categories instead of doing a great deal of editing to the plugin. |

Was thinking of doing the update myself. Here's what I had in mind:
- Split forums/pages into separate file (parts), but still same plugin - Add more config options, such as exclusion of certain categories/forum sections - Add RSS - Possibly add user definable settings such as number of lines shown - Use AJAX for live updating of items (auto refresh every couple of minutes) |

File parts could be seperate, but not 2 plugins.
Redundancy/Checking Read access must stay or it will perform improperly. I see no need for RSS? the RSS currently can already show all the latest topics/pages. We have no good methods as a basis (control panel) for User settings like that for plugins. Ajax seems pointless as most people don't just sit on the homepage? |

Whats up with the redundancy/read access check? Why not do that before (or inside) the actual query?

It's a simple puzzle with redundancy. Can you write up a query that would fetch 5 latest topics from forums which a user necessarily has permission to read?

Although I like the feature to select from last visit, 1 day etc, it doesn't add much new. The whatsnew plugin does most of the job to.. |

I talked with escklm and what we can do to update it hes going to do.
Functionize recent items, add recent users/comments. All Recent items will have a disable config if you don't want them. Also it will have the stand alone pages (as shown above) for each. Along with the normal hook which will contain the simplified version of each as well. |
