To enable SEF urls you can do the following:

  1. Copy contents of sef-urls.htaccess file to your .htaccess
  2. Go to Administration / Extensions and install the "URL Editor" plugin
  3. Go to plugin's configuration and switch current preset to "Handy"

That's it.
