Actually, POSIX timestamps display dates after 1970. Using negative timestamps for people born before 1970 is not a standard thing. But we moved to MySQL DATE rather than INT timestamp to make complex SQL queries on user birthdays (ticket #313). For example, you can easily select users who have birthday today, without selecting all users and passing them to PHP.

Here is the explaination:
4. Copy sql/patch-0.0.6.txt, save it in your site root as patch.php, run in web browser like http://your-domain.tld/patch.php and then remove patch.php from your site.

Can somebody break down the steps for me regarding the birthdays that are set to 30-11-1999?

I'm running the latest version of Cotonti and upgraded from the latest Seditio (v130) version.

Yep, I forgot it as well (simply overlooked it as I was concentrating on the main db patches) when we did the move to Cotonti on our live site, but simply applying the patch afterwards works just fine. At least as far as I can tell up until now.

You take the latest version and to all sql step by step.
but the patch is not indicated. Maybe at it in the readme in the sql dir.

This did the trick, so the ticket can be closed.

In the readme or install there is no instruction about it.
Maybe at it for users that upgrade from seditio or an older version.

To check whether you have applied it or not, see the sed_users table structure in phpMyAdmin. If user_birthdate has type DATE then you have, if user_birthdate has type INT then you haven't and you should do it now.

I'm sorry but setting this option is neccessary and required since PHP 5.3. This is not unique to Cotonti, the timezone just has to be configured in any PHP application (since 5.3) that uses date functions. So I consider this bug to be "solved" now.

As for the birthday problem please answer these questions:

Which Cotonti ver. are you running?
Have you updated it from earlier versions?
If updating from 0.0.5 or earlier, have you ever ran a PHP patcher sql/patch-0.6.txt as a PHP script in root folder?

GMT is uk indeed. So +1 in admin should be sufficient, but not.
Trustmaters rather simple solution fixed it (feel kinda dumb coz it never crossed my to change it in config.php)

Please check this part of your datas/config.php:

It makes sense as well as those offsets your set in AdminCP.

Are you using the latest version? Because the age-problem was on old bug.

In 0.6.3 the user birthday problem was solved: See http://www.cotonti.com/news/announce/genoa_063_released

Just finished setting up a new website based on Cotonti and I used Seditio previously and I always had the timezone set to GMT+1 (which is where the server is). But Cotonti is showing a completely different time than it actually is in the GMT+1 zone?

Another thing; Cotonti sets the age of all the users automatically to 1999-November-30, and it's impossible for the user to correct this because after updating the profile it just jumps back again.
