And it's also a question of audience. But people who are able to decode strange grafics (many of them have their difficoulties, not just blind people) should be able to answer simple questions. I would assume that ANY captcha is a 99% protection for a low-to-medium ranking site which 99% of all Cotonti sites are. If a spammer is trying to place ads at your site, "ban by email" is good for nothing, since switching to a different public mailserver is a one-minute job.
As regards "top-10" megasites, an overcomplicated captcha might inevitably cause loss of audience in comments (don't make me think!). The math Captcha does its work very well, I can recommend it. Since we installed this on our Seditio site after we too were being swamped with bots we never had a bot register ever again and we will continue to use it on our Cotonti website.

Very TRUE, but captcha is not the miracle cure for unwanted registrars.. :) , But it IS the cure for BOTS !
