What I think will be the last of them until Cotonti 0.0.5 is released.
I've tested it multiple times and have had excellent luck with everything working correctly.

I've tried to make this as user friendly as possible, with the addition of two Core/Users configurations now added for controlling the default color for names and the postcount required to edit them via profile. I have also redesigned the popup, users may now click the [++] symbol beside each input box and insert the desired code in the popup via click.

I also updated the ReadME yet again, hopefully these are closely followed by everyone and things don't go badly. If you encounter any errors or problems with this release, please contact me as soon as possible.

Yet another update. This should be the final release if no errors are reported.
This build is a bit more invasive, has all the features of version 0.1.0, with support for colors everywhere usernames appear throughout the entire site.

This build was constructed to eliminate the duplicate SQL queries in previous versions. Which means it causes no extra load on your websites loading time. Those of you with thousands of members can now rest easy as the load issues are now resolved.

Stop bumpiin the table! You might make this record sk, ski, skip.

This is a minor revision, featuring nothing more than "help" for users. Add's a single link under the color inputs so that users may see acceptable colors, and the codes needed to use them. Should help those who don't know HTML color codes greatly. Comes with 140 colors listed, feel free to add more or remove those incompatible with your skin. editing is very simple and can be done inside the "system/help/displaycolors.txt" file.

Hmm.. I did a second fresh install with it and am getting the same problem now, which is strange because the first time around it didnt do this. I'll see what I can find.

Tested not once but twice on fresh installs. I tracked the problem down to the common.php, not really sure what it was doing it though, nothing looked out of the normal so I jsut rebuilt it with a 0.0.4 file and all should be well now. Let me know how this one works out for ya.

http://www.cotonti.com/datas/users/colornames-0.0.9_252.zip

Another Update. Had some free time today and got started with some new additions. Allows changes to colors in profile editing so users no longer need to contact Admins for color changes. Much nicer feel with it working like this. No direct SQL is needed at anytime other than to update the tables with the included file. Exisiting members must edit their profile and save it a single time to enable editing colors. All new members will have this automatically done on registration as it has been.

I suppose the next release will be nothing more than a very invasive corehack to remove the extra SQL query for each name to display. This has not had any adverse effects reported, but the quicker load time is always worth the time spent removing them. This build is for Cotonti Release 0.0.4 ONLY!
Not to sound rude, but your code isn't even efficient. It issues a SQL query to the database for each user name displayed per page. So say you were looking at a forum topic that had 10 posts that is 10 extra queries. I made a core hack for LDU/Seditio years ago, on my own site though I recycled the code and it doesn't issue a query for each user. You can see an example of what it, here:

No, I don't find it rude at all man. I thought I had explained the reason for returning to this method. I can change it around and make it not add the extra queries, but it's far more invasive to the core and with future releases said to support this feature from the getgo, I find little reason to invade the core and remove the extra queries for use until then..

Colored Usernames. We've assigned them using CSS by GroupID(good for showing moderators, unfair to members). We've assigned them by UserID(fair to members, give moderators bold, or other style). These methods are very effective but require a lot of space in your CSS files, and lack a very nice feature to have. MultiColored names. Such as "nismo240". The ability to assign each individual letter's color, style, weight, ect.

Are you running cotonti release 0.0.3 or 0.0.2? The newest version(0.6.0) is built for use with 0.0.3.
Tested in both FireFox 3.0.5 and InternetExplorer 7 on multiple machines.

If you can, please take a screenshot of the effects/errors being shown when this hack is installed. If you are running cotonti release 0.0.2 I highly suggest updating to 0.0.3 and reinstalling. Or I can throw together a new build for 0.0.2 compatibility.

I will do my best to help solve these issues, no matter the cause. :)

So I took some time to retest this modification and ran into a 502 error on a fresh install of 0.0.3 and colornames 0.0.6. Not good. So I took some time and redid the entire thing from scratch. Using the same functions, but starting with fresh unmodified files. Build 0.0.7 is now ready and working flawlessly again. I'm thinking part of the problem was in the amount of releases due to little issues and additions, but I suppose thats just how it goes.

I deleted all my SQL databases and deleted all cotonti directories, cleared my history and temp files and started fresh for this round of testing, straight from the official .zip to my server with 0.0.7 on top. I've tested and included versions for both cotonti 0.0.2 and 0.0.3. Hopefully this will clear up all issues anyone has had. I appologize for the problems, it's been hard getting out of the habbit of using notepad to edit PHP files (HUGE NO,NO!)...I belive that was to blame for your issues.

Have a go at this and let me know how it works out. :D

I'm still trying to figure out where '$user' gets defined for use in the functions php. If I can find that, bug would be fixed, until I figure out where it gets defined, I had to revert back to using the SQL query to call the column needed to display the colored name.

NEW RELEASE!
Version 0.0.5, built for Cotonti 0.0.3, added feature!

This release has reverted to a single SQL for building each user. After a discussion with Kilandor in the chat, it was pretty well decided that there should be a very minimal effect from using this method. So it was restored, and the former bug is now gone.

This release also comes with a new feature to save time on administrative editing. When a user joins your website, their user name of choice is split and automatically built, with a default color of #000000(black) for each letter.

You can download the release at RapidShare yet again(c'mon dev's, whats up with my PFS on here?)
Link Removed, Post Edited//

Please post any errors you encounter with this release!
Thanks for reading!
Maybe we just didnt look hard enough or it was his server causing the issue. Either way, I appologize for even bringing it up. It was just an example of a multi-release that could have been packaged together as a group effort and been that much better(all using the same optimized code).

Anywho's, back onto the subject of Color Usernames.. I've uploaded a New Release yet again! This time, a more Cotonti style build. The issues with SQL queries have been cleared up and the code changes reduced to almost nothing. One line of code added to the common.php, one tag added and one changed, in the functions.php :)

P.S. - PFS is still not working for me, RapidShare as usual.
I never had any of them actually work prior to 121, I got it two weeks ago. The last time I used Sedito was two or more years ago, forget the actaul version it was on.. :(

I belive the other two I'm thinking of came from outside sources, as a last ditch effort to have a working captcha back then. The owner of the site couldnt get it going so it eventually closed and the captcha was the least of its worries.

I'm just going to hold off on building anything else for a while, because I'd rather be able to use it, than take a chance on it being in a future cotonti core release and my code being useless. Even though they are great learning experience and shouldn't really matter to me being on my website, but they do.

Maybe since Sedito is officially done getting new releases, I should just stick with it since I know what it does and does not have already included in the core. If I build something, it's not going to be replaced or useless from core upgrading.

I took a look at the link in your signature for things I could work on and with the methods I'm using to code, I think I'm a bit outdated for doing any of those. I would definately give the Profiles a go, with friends, recent viewers, ect... But I'm not sure I could do it in a way that you guys would accept.

I've been using this system since LDU 603 and all versions have had working CAPTCHA solutions. I honestly can't remember any non-working scenario that has been put public and confirmed by users.

I dont think you should take the "i'm gonna use an obsolete system cause i know what's in it" however since that's kind of a shot in the foot for your site. we have many security holes patched that seditio doesnt and your site can get hacked by any of those.

I dont think you'd want that.

Cotonti is the system that's seditio 2.0 with all the security and functionality upgrades that people have been bitching about for years. Along with a myriad of features that have been keeping this CMS in the "dark ages" (mostly meaning in the old LDU ages logic).

I wouldn't go for that, as I've been told all of that is being done currently.
As for you giving up on Cotonti development, do not do that. Keep at it, my friend. It's merely a coincidence that you started a project that is already being taken under control. Just got to find something that isn't being developed yet.

Well personally I think that having multiple CAPTCHA solutions is actually better since you can't pinpoint the weakness of the CMS on a general level. Qapcha is a great idea, Math captcha is a great idea and so is the regular captcha (i never noticed there were more than three so i have no idea what the other two are).

@diablo, your still thinking "single color".

@Lombi, I'm not trying to get offended or anything, it just seems silly that all kinds of features that I've been working on are becoming part of the cotonti core, but its not my work going in so it's obviously being redone which means, developer time wasted.

I remember downloaded 5 different version of Captcha for sedito and they all sucked ass, had the 5 guys came together to make 1 good one, it would have been awsome and worth downloading and using. I can deal with it though, If I can add to the core, I can take from it if I don't like features.

@oc, No, I don't think every code written gets used, and I don't write code to try and get in into the core, but all of them so far will likely become part of it(though im sure im far, far more complex and far less understandable code, such as AJAX). And my code will be hindered useless and I will be forced to chaulk it up as a learning experience. Which is great and all, but not as good as having people actually appreciate and use the code.

@Kilandor, it's all good.
I bet you wont be using this code though..huh?

I might aswell put my editing tools aside until cotonti is finished 100%.

Between this and the quickedit, everything I'm doing is being redone by someone on staff...

Why waste time recoding what I already did when it makes perfect sense to use it. Minimal changes, in three files(including making it editable) and the ability to use any html you please for any effect imaginable.

What more could we need with it?

This code can allow users to edit their display names as will should the site allow it, I am on several forums that allow this but to me, its hard to keep track of who everyone is when people change names daily.

I'm sure it could also feature the ability to let a user choose what color they want for each letter from dropdown boxes. I have plans to add more to it, but for now, this is far superior to any CSS.

Please dont feel offended. The two improvements you've made are interesting enough that they are being considered to be very tightly integrated with the constnatly improving CMS. What you could do is maybe consider tackling any of the shortcomings in my signature link :)

What I include will not be limited to just color's, it will support just nay html flat-out. But for the user editing (if admin allows) it would be limited to bbcode, and maybe more restrictive than that.

Using it in TPL like that is not acceptable as it would not work like that in every location.

Indeed, this could be improved vastly since it would allow the admin to make all sorts of design improvements that are group-based, like for example the way deviantart dispalys the usernames (char in front of username), which can't be handled by just CSS

Different colors or such can server purposes such as easily distingusing user, or administration for others, and its only childish if the admin desgins it lame, and its not discriminating in any way. For example in pages and stuff unless you just know who someone is then you may not know they are a Admin, or maybe a mod. With such features you can quickly distinguish who someone is just from the color of their name.

I have a site I use it on and it serves a distinct purpose, and there are so many users that use it. Or you can look at just about every other CMS/Forum system out there, they have a default coloring scheme for default groups.

I have no plans to put default colors, just the feature admins to set HTML, and admin choice to allow users to set their own (something I would never do on my own site). Also this would allow for, plugins to use this feature as well.

Part of what your referring to is a typical "title" feature, most systems have, but the location and such can be used for similar things lol. Though I don't think we need to add "titles" since it can be added as extra fields.

The reason for needing to add support for HTML for users/groups is because the only way for such modifications are corehacks, and these things are corehacked enough by people that its something we should have. It will also be very non-invasive, and for those that don't want it they will never know it was even there.
