Since just about every user here has PMed me after reading my signature which specificaly says no support PMs I remembered a setting that we're missing but all of the forum packages have.

It's the ability to turn off the ability to recieve PMs.

Ideas?

Orkan:
I can pm you if you want :)

I think more than that, there should be a "my buddies" plugin, if you don't care PM's you can ignore it, but you can set it like receiving from certain people or ignoring. This feature you say is useless, if you don't want any pm's there is no problem for mistaking necessary pm's from others since you shut it off.

A long time ago I was planning to do "buddies" plugin but instead i worked other areas.

I actually like the idea. But wouldn't it be better if we could block PMs from people we BLOCK, instead of blocking it for everyone?

In any case, you just make sure that user CAN NOT block PM from administrator and maybe moderator ;)

So that's why I suggest blocking by username instead of complete blocking

A block list seems the best way to do things

Would be good to have a feature like on Vbulletin.

Admin can set how many posts you have to have before you can :
Send PM's
Add a signature
Access parts of the site etc..

The theory helps build up content/posts on you site. In relation to the PM's, by the time people have been on the long enough to make the post limit, they should know which users not to contact via pm.

Just my thoughts :p

I'd be interested in turning PM's off for certain users as well. Possibly turn them off for only users who have PSP in their website, signature, occupation, or any other profile fields.

@Brock- Zing.

The VBulletin thing sounds like an interesting idea. I remember there being a plugin that would adjust user levels based on post numbers. Could use that idea for the content restrictions.

Not sure I would personally disallow the PM system to new users just because. Like the idea of a block list myself.

There is a plugin running on Cotonti which blocks regular members to send messages to a certain users. I'm pretty sure it can be shared.
