Hi, I made a fresh install today and I receive this error when i try to view the site

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_internal_encoding() in /www/xxxx.com/f/l/a/xxxxxxxx/htdocs/cont/system/common.php on line 44

What am I doing wrong?
