I personally like to be able to read a snipplet of articles before reading "more" lol. Just my two cents. Everything else in the wishlist looks pretty good, though I really feel that plugins/modules is the way to go for most things. Options are always good. In Siena this is possible by using LIST_ROW_TEXT_CUT tag. Full tags list HOWTO is here. May the Source be with you!
