Trustmaster Latest update

As you can see, the Web Vote has already started. As for the Jury vote, it will take place on October 10-11th. We decided to give the skinmakers a few days before that to make their skins a bit better and prepare the downloadable packages.

The Jury consists of 10 Cotonti Community and Team members who don't participate in this contest. Currently the list consists of:
  1. Trustmaster
  2. Kilandor
  3. Lombi
  4. Azazello
  5. Pieter
  6. Sergeich
  7. Rayblo
  8. esclkm
  9. musiconly
  10. Dayver

On October 10th they will receive source packages with the skins and will give their marks and send them to me in a private message:
  • Layout (1-5 pts): measuring general look & feel of the skin
  • Coding (1-5 pts): evaluating quality of XHTML/CSS/JavaScript code
  • Infrastructure (1-5 pts): evaluating coverage of Cotonti TPLs, multilingual support, theme support and extensibility
Jury can also provide comments to their marks.

On October 12th I will publish overall results including voting protocols, so that you will see they are not fake.

Trustmaster Stam! And (offtopic, but)... Happy Birthday, Stam! I wish you a great success in your design career, football and that you make a #1 site in Greece powered by Cotonti :)) You rock hard, man!]]> Mon, 05 Oct 2009 02:01:37 -0000 MeDBejoHok Stam, your first version of compo-skin was so awesome. Latest version not bad, but not awesome. Lol, sry for my english.]]> Mon, 05 Oct 2009 01:46:52 -0000 Stam You can see live sample here.
And some screenshots from the skin:

While following a high work load, I was trying to finish this template, which was just a photoshop design until last Sunday. The final version of the XHTML/CSS template is ready, though I wasn't able to come up with a complete Cotonti skin, as I was away from skin development for over a year. This means, I have worked on several tpl files, but certainly not all of them. So, the skin version is really far from perfect. Anyway, this is my effort and I hope you like it.

I said in a previous post that I'm not here for the money; I want to prove that. Thus, if I get any of the top 3 places in the public vote, I'll be donating the money back to Cotonti.

I'd really want to work more on the skin, but at the moment there is no time and I'm also tired. And since today is my birthday, I decided to quit working after 8 straight hours and relax by watching some football. I will be resuming my work on the skin later anyway, win or lose... until I'm pleased with the final outcome and ready for actual release.]]>

The Web Vote will be just a normal poll, so you are allowed to vote for yourself but only once. I know our polls are not perfect, so we will check for fraud attempts and disqualify those entries which got many votes from fake accounts made by same person or from the same subnet(s).

The Jury Vote is private, I will soon inform you of the jury members.

Attention please

As some of major candidates are not able to meet the deadline on September 30th (which is today), I have to shift the deadline to October 4th to give everybody a chance to make their skins perfect. So, the latest schedule is:
Submission deadline: October 4th, 20:00 GMT
Voting starts: October 5th, 12:00 GMT
Voting ends: October 11th, 20:00 GMT
Results will be available: October 12th, 12:00 GMT.
This is the last call, no more deadline shifts will be performed. I apologize to everyone who has waited too long already.]]>

Stam @ oc

Mate, the 1st design is not part of the contest as I have explained already. I love the design and it can really turn out to be (I believe everything has potential) a great design.
I will be working on the 2nd design, applying some changes we discussed above with Trustmaster. I also believe it can be transformed into a top notch design.

The screens show index page only because I don't have time to work on the rest at the moment and want some input to improve the design first. After all, the difference of forums/articles with index won't be so dramatic. Well, forums have limited design options anyway (my idea for the forum posts will be something close to this layout).

Regarding the money issue, I'm not here for the money; never was. I respect the people who run this project and it makes me happy being able to help by contributing my work. Sometimes, it just feels good to see your name in the credits and earn recognition.

Randomly now, I personally like dark designs and gothic/grunge style, but the situation here demands light in my opinion (in colors and general aesthetics).]]>

Really, before everything, this is just dumb critism, I'm not a designer, in fact I'm terrible at it, so calm down, this means nothing.

So it begins.. I have to say, why do we only see the index scr? Index is surely important but I'd like to see the forums, content page vsvs also. Like, since 2002, Seditio/Ldu has same layout for forum, article page, etc.

And also I was put out by the attendance numbers, ok, designers do much money from some projects, but this is our (not mine actually, I am a very cheap mofo--also I don't have much money, not relevant) humble budget.

..dot..'s:

Very best so far, but even though you use tabbing, you couldn't manage the fit the "Trac Tickets" and "Polls" to your theme. But I loved the colors you used, even though It can be more lighter, but you should set a limit, we wouldn't want a second "seditio light" :)

Koradhil's:

Well, honestly, I would probably use this on my site out of the other options, because it looks so damn clean i can't put it anywhere, but it looks very much like the Drupal.org theme to me, which's not really making the best competition candidate.

robofreak111's:

Come on, man. What is this? Did you do this with MSPaint? You got to do better than this. And also it's not the best color preference.

Stam's:

Mate, first one looks a lot better. I would say you should work more on the first one. Which makes me realise, I like dark blue hues. And what I liked about the first one was, the very visible search part, which actually is the most important part of an internet site.

So anyway, this is my thoughts so far. Hopefully the best one will be picked up, good luck to everyone!]]>

That's actually a really nice tabber.. is that the one of neocrome? or did you design it yourself?]]>
Mon, 21 Sep 2009 06:26:42 -0000
Stam FM Scout.
I only placed latest forum posts on top (along with who's online) because it's the first thing I want to see when entering a site. Could still do the tabs idea quite stylish on that same top area.

The small boxes on the left column are nice though, so maybe a little rearrangement of content could be interesting. The latest news go on top of left column (5 of them), brief site info goes on the right column along with latest poll (in the same fancy box it is now) and tags.

I'll try to post the new version by tomorrow. Thanks for the input mate!]]>

I suppose people are going to have more than 2 small posts as news on their index. At least 5 of them. Then the left column is going to contain a lot of general info, etc. Anyways it's all so site-specific.]]>

robotik Sun, 20 Sep 2009 20:28:30 -0000 Stam I believe I can present you with another quality piece for the skin contest by tomorrow as well. It's almost done in Photoshop, needs some final touches; I think it's slightly more eye-candy than "Sleek Comfort".
That is 2 skin projects with only 10 days left to go now... quite a challenge!

3 hours and 61 minutes later...

As promised, here is the design intended for the skin contest.
I was aiming for a layout with plenty of white space, vibrant colors and modern style.

It's not really complete, since I'm not entirely pleased with every detail on it just yet, but thought it was ready enough to submit this idea, in order to get some input from you. Having that said, critiques are welcome.

I call it "Vibrant Light". It's sized down to 75%.

moments later...

To summarize, I have posted 2 designs so far.
I wish to clarify once again that "Sleek Comfort" is a proposal to become the new official cotonti.com design, and will be produced as a unique skin for this particular purpose only if Cotonti team agrees on that. This means there's an extended deadline for it, if I'm not mistaken.
"Vibrant Light" is my submission to the current skin contest and will be (eventually) produced as a public skin anyway. Probably available as a free CSS template as well, at a later time of course.]]>

______________________________________________________________

EDIT a: As some of you might know I'm done with my army duty, and currently trying to get my life back. I have already received many work proposals, even though I didn't aim for any of them. I'll be working on third party projects until the end of this month, which is unfortunate because I'll be devoting less time on this contest. However, I wish to submit two designs... one for Cotonti website, as I believe it needs a major revamp; and one for the skin contest.

So here comes an idea for Cotonti website. Let me know what you guys think about it.
