Thanks, it took me half a day to perfect it, though I have to admit that it was inspired by another site, Xero.com. In my opinion though, it's different enough so it won't be noticed ;)

Interesting entry, I wonder how you'd do shadows or bevels in paint.

My entry is in the HTML/CSS coding stage, I have a work in progress online here. The code could be more efficient here and there but I guess it's ok. Feedback is appreciated.

Love your skin, only one question. Why do you have two "home" links? icon home and link home

I think it's missing footer :)
And I would recommend some readings about semantic markup, because it is very important for a skin that tends to be an example of good coding and SEO. Here are useful articles:

Well, most of it is semantic. The only thing I'm sure you don't like is the <div><div><div>...</div></div></div> thing. Unfortunately this is (as far as I know) the only way to get flexible blocks with borders and rounded edges in a cross-browser and W3C validated way, without using javascript.
I personally prefer not to use this technique, but sometimes I just have to in order to get the desired effect. I could replace some things with fixed-width alternatives though, which would remove the need for div clustering like that.

Although I agree that semantic markup is very important, it is not the holy grail of webdevelopment, and because of that we don't need to have entirely semantic markup (that would only limit our options). I'm not writing the HTML for the next CSS Zen Garden.

OK, I hate fixed width layouts :)

Good, my skin can be easily edited for different widths. There is one single value in the CSS that controls the page width (default is 960px), most other widths are percentages. The background image would have to be edited too, because that is fixed width (1x960px).

Best way is to start with a design in plain HTML, CSS and images. Then you have to make it into a skin by cutting the HTML into pieces and adding the tags.
I suggest you copy an existing skin to make sure you don't forget any files. Just don't be lazy and keep the originals, you should edit them all.
