Anybody getting a LOT of spam accounts from guys with mail.ru as their e-mail. I was banning IPs because I figured it was an isolated incident. Today I have over 40 junk accounts. On the same thought is there a way to disallow registration with a mail.ru e-mail? Banlist says it doesn't support wildcards for e-mail.
Just wanted to know if it was a Cotonti thing, or just my site personally. |

Maybe you can use: admin.php?m=banlist
just put mail.ru ??? Maybe someone can tell how this works ? (Not tried that yet) I want to block '.ru' on a dutch site ! ==- I say: Keep it EZ -==

Having over 40 junk accounts a day means you do not use captcha at registration or there is a very persistant (but not necessarily Russian) guy trying to use your site to advertise. Either way this is an indication that you do not provide basic protection for your site rather than a Russian threat.

Kort is right, over 40 from the same account or from the same ip means an automated thing, and captcha will prevent that for sure.
@Rayblo Did you just use mail.ru in the banlist ???, can you provide details ? Thnx ==- I say: Keep it EZ -==

It is naive to assume or suggest that banning by email is a remedy. What if the next batch of spambots will use @yahoo.com?

Very TRUE, but captcha is not the miracle cure for unwanted registrars.. , But it IS the cure for BOTS !I will try the captcha soon  ==- I say: Keep it EZ -==

Very true it probably is a bot. I'll disable registration until I get a CAPTCHA in place.

This is happening to me too!.
And I have a CAPTCHA in place! ???? The one were you have to enter 6 digits.... Does anyone have any other CAPTCHA I can try? |

Magic. We opened comments for guests, installed recaptcha and had no single autospam comment ever since. Test the captcha -- maybe it is simply not working.

Since we installed this on our Seditio site after we too were being swamped with bots we never had a bot register ever again and we will continue to use it on our Cotonti website. Of course as said Math Captcha too does not prevent any moron to manually register to spam his (*&^&( <img src="http://www.armaholic.com/datas/thumbs/green-sea-battalion-uniforms-version-03-preview_4.jpg" alt="green-sea-battalion-uniforms-version-03-" />
